"Single Gal Seeking Fairy Godmother (For Matchmaking Purposes)"
Acrylics on Canvas (8" X 10"/20.3 cm by 25.4 cm
Once upon a time, there was a young girl named Karlie.
She was the only girl she knew who'd never, never ever had a boyfriend. She'd never even had a FRIEND who was a BOY, so she was beginning to worry that somehow she was totally and completely invisible to the male population of the world. But then Mr. Coldwell would call on her in history class when, of course, she hadn't read the chapter and had no clue what the answer to his question was and, actually, even if she HAD read the chapter, she STILL wouldn't have a clue what the answer to his question was, because she'd been daydreaming and hadn't even heard anything he'd said all class period, until he said her name. But anyway, THAT would completely kill the I'm-just-invisble-to-them theory every time. THANKS, Mr. C!
Three weeks before prom, when all the other girls had not only their dates, but their dresses, and their shoes dyed to match, Karlie had none of the above.
All she had was a mother who apparently thought that the promise that "someday" her prince would make her feel better. Well, NOTHING would make sitting home alone on the biggest night of the year while all her friends and frienemies danced their butts off okay.
So Karlie has taken matters into her own hands.
She's dressed in her raggediest dress, the older than the hills patched up one her mother won't allow her to wear anywhere but around the house and snuck out to the pumpkin patch, where she's going to sit and wait on her fairy godmother to show up and do some bibbidy-bobbidy-booing. And she isn't going to settle for some mere high school boy. Prince Charming or bust, baby.
