"Selena the Ballerina"
Mixed Media Collage on Canvas (8" X 10"/20.3 cm by 25.4 cm)

Once upon a time, Selena was one of those musicbox ballerinas. You know, the ones that live statuesque in a musicbox until the lid is lifted and then they're kind of forced to spin and spin until the lid closes once again.

Then, one day, the lid of Selena's box opened and hours passed and it didn't close back. Selena spun and spun until she grew dizzy. Then, choiceless, she spun a while longer. THEN, she heard someone behind her clear their throat. She glanced back and saw a PIRATE. Well, a pirate action figure, anyhow.

"I was looking for treasure," he said.

He stared at her and added, "I think I found it."

"There IS plenty of gold here," she said, gesturing at the many necklaces, as she spun away from him again. But the only gold he was interested in was her HEART of gold.

"Do you need rescuing?" he asked.

"YES!" she cried, very dizzy now.

So he freed her poor and tired feet and they ran away together. These days, Selena only dances when she wants to. She & her pirate especially love to waltz.
