Well, hello! I'm KJ and I'm so glad you're here!
In the past, I've had a WIDE variety of jobs. I've been a waitress, teacher, & a legal assistant, just to name a few.
When I was a teacher, I said, "Someday, I wanted to have my own crafty business, to be a writer and
an artist for a living."
When I was a legal assistant, I said, "Someday, I want to have my own crafty business, to be a writer and an artist for a living."
And once upon a time, and long, long, long time ago, in a land not so very far away, when I was a waitress, I said, "Being a waitress SUCKS."
But that's really neither here nor there, because the point is:
Two years ago, I woke up one day, and suddenly, it WAS someday...suddenly, I get to make my living as an artist, I have my own crafty business, a one-woman cottage industry called The Dreamy Giraffe, and though I'm not writing nearly as much as I'd like right now, stringing words together, making up stories are a huge part of who I am, so most of my paintings have a story to go along with them.
Right now, The Dreamy Giraffe's focus is on paintings, but I have big plans for my product line to grow and grow to include all sorts of pretty, dreamy, sparkly things. If you like what you've seen here, I do hope you'll check out my shop, where art & other pretties are available for purchase, or vist my blog, The Adventures of KJ & The Dramy Giraffe, which will be updated daily-ish. And come back here soon! The newest work will always be displayed on the front page!
Here are the answers to a few "frequently asked questions", but if I don't cover what's got you curious, you can always shoot me an e-mail. I'd love to hear from you!
1) Where'd you come up with the name The Dreamy Giraffe?
My original choice was The Pink Elephant. My father is color-blind and in his high school art class, he did a project that involved making bookends in the shape of elephants. The teacher, puzzled, asked why he'd chosen to paint the elephants pink. Of course, Daddy didn't know realize they WERE pink: he thought they were grey. However, if you google The Pink Elephant, you'll find approximately 89707232 people using it already, and I wanted something original. My "board of directors" (mom and sister) and I had been tossing around every combination of article + adjective + noun for weeks. Discouraged & feeling like I couldn't move forward without a name I really loved, I announced that if we didn't come up with something over that weekend, I was just giving the whole thing up. Within seconds, my sister said, suddenly, "The Dreamy Giraffe!" It was the first name we all liked and agreed on. I Googled it and got nada. It also didn't hurt that giraffes have always been one of my favorite animals. So The Dreamy Giraffe it is.
